Spice oils and oleoresins are consumed by a broad range of manufacturers such as beverage, confectionery, curry powder, soups, etc. SCFE  CO2  extraction process for spices  oleoresin  is  the latest energy efficient process in the world. This compound has similar character and property of the spice it is derived from. Spice oils and oleoresins are concentrated compounds in the liquid form obtained by the solvent extraction of the ground spices.  Probably, no  plant is  working in India based on this technology. It contains volatile as well as non-volatile part of the spices. The extraction  of essential  oils,  organoleptic  compounds,  i.e.,  the  compounds responsible  for aroma, flavour, and taste from both liquids  and solid  plant  materials is possiblt  using  supercritical  carbon dioxide. It is used as a substitute for whole or ground spices without impairing flavor and aroma. Materials that can be used are any plant materials which contain aromatic substances such as: herbs, spices, flowers, crop seeds (e.g. hops, coffee), pharmaceutically active compounds.
Many of these end-use industries are growing rapidly due to an high demand for many food products and bound to produce good quality products. The uses of spices are gradually replaced by spice oils and oleoresins and export of product. EIRI have prepared the project report on this Industry to start this unit.
