Toughened glass plant (import of float and clear glass)

EIRI have recently prepared detailed project report of toughened glass. Toughened or tempered glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner surfaces into tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. Annealed glass) creates. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury.

Tempered glass is a safety glass that is used very commonly to serve many purposes. Tempered glass has specific properties that make it ideal for many applications that could be dangerous if tempered glass was not used. Tempered glass is designed to be highly stronger and less likely to break than other glasses. In the event tempered glass does break, it shatters into hundreds of small, blunt fragments to prevent serious damage from harmful sharp and jagged edges. Tempered glass is a heat resistant, making it 4 to 5 times stronger than any other glasses and harder to break. It is often referred to as “safety glass.”

Tempered glass is used for car windows (side and rear), oven windows, house windows, shower doors, and coffee makers.

The world-renowned land glass (china) world’s no. 1 has provided with the most advanced technology & machines.

Toughened glass acquires a degree of strength for excess of the strength of normal glass sheet or plate glass, which if broken shatters into small and comparatively harmless pieces. It is claimed that the resistance to mechanical stock of toughened plate glass is 4 to 5 times more than that of ordinary plate glass. A toughened glass has better resistance to the vibration, mechanical shock and abrasion.

Toughend glass has to pass the following important tests :

  • Transfer strength test on sheets on simply supplied (modules of rupture and electricity)
  • Impact test: by following weight on sheets supported on two wooden battens
  • Impact by falling weight on sheet evenly bedded (on putty)
  • Impact by falling weight on edge of sheet
  • Repeated twisting tests
  • Sand blast abrasion
  • Thermal tests

Because of the strength and other specific physical properties mentioned above, it finds applications in the following fields:

  • Automobile : cars, trucks, industry buses, tempos etc.
  • Railways : coaches
  • Defence : fleets, vehicles factory
  • Commercial : hotels, shops complex
  • Air ports : doors

As a result of its safety and strength, toughened glass is used in a variety of demanding applications, including passenger vehicle windows, shower doors, architectural glass doors and tables, refrigerator trays, mobile screen protectors, as a component of bulletproof glass, for diving masks, and various types of plates and cookware.

Toughened glass, as the name itself suggests, is glass material is tougher than ordinary glass that has low resistance power. These are stronger varieties that are used in various places, whether residential or commercial constructions. In fact, the strength of the toughened glass is up to five times more than that of annealed glasses. Toughened glass is also used to manufacture glassware and these products are comparatively safer and offer more durability. However, the strength of these items should not be confused with any wrong perception of being unbreakable. If products made of toughened glass are handled with proper care, they can last even for a lifetime.
