					<description><![CDATA[<p>Manufacturing of bamboo based utility and fancy articles are being used in every housed<br />
in India and abroad. Bamboos are mainly growing in hill border areas and available in<br />
plenty in north eastern states including Assam in India. Various types of domestic<br />
utility, decorative and fancy articles are produced out of bamboo by doing certain<br />
preliminary process of bamboo with simple technology. Simple tools are being used for<br />
making desired articles by the traditional artisans.</p>
<p>There are traditional and non-traditional artisans working in the bamboo handicraft<br />
sector and they produce both conventional and modern items. Raw material is sourced<br />
from the home gardens as well as from forest and the price of one bamboo ranges between<br />
Rs. 10 to Rs. 80 depending on its length and size. Fancy and show case items such as,<br />
lamp shade, flower vase, house models and boat models and other household utility<br />
articles also produced like baskets, mats and winnows are the main products produced.<br />
Traditional and common tools are used for different stages of production purpose.<br />
Trained artisans and traditional people are engaged in the bamboo sector with training<br />
obtained from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p>Bamboos are a group of woody perennial evergreen plants in the true grass family Poaceae, subfamily Bambusoideae, tribe Bambuseae. Some of its members are giants, forming by far the largest members of the grass family. Younger tips of some of the larger species can grow over 1 meter per day.Bamboo pulp means moist, slightly cohering mass, consisting of soft, undissolved animal or vegetable matter.Pulp made from wood, used especially to make paper. Bamboo is botanically classified as a grass and for pulping purposes it is regarded as an annual plant. Bamboo pulp is very similar to softwood in terms of fiber length and strength. However, pulping conditions are also very similar to eucalyptus. Hence, bamboo can be pulped together with hardwood. Mixed cooking provides stronger pulp than hardwood pulped separately and later mixed with bamboo. Bamboo can also be cooked with acacia. Bamboo can be formed into a suitable pulp if prior to digestion it undergoes a process of shredding, washing and wet depithing.The fibres are then chemically digested preferably by a process which uses rapid pressure drops to open the fibres using the energy contained in the wet superheated fibres. Plant cell walls are composed of cellulose which is the main material used to make paper. Wood contains high levels of these papermaking fibres and is the main pulp source utilized in North America. The structure and shape of the cellulose wood fibre varies from species to species and even within an individual tree. Chemical pulping turns the wood pulp brown in colour. Although this is fine for such packaging as cardboard and some paper bags, whiteness is an important characteristic in papers used for printing or high quality packaging. Bleaching is used to whiten and purify the pulp fibres. How much bleaching is required depends on the end product that will be manufactured from the pulp. Bleaching, however, weakens the wood fibre. Different paper products have different requirements for the balance between strength and whiteness. To meet this range of needs, mills produce a variety of pulps such as fully bleached, semi-bleached and unbleached. The international commodity market for paper pulp is well established, and the supply side is dominated by a few very large multinational companies. Prices in the domestic market in Australia essentially track the cycles in world price. Indicative costs of bleached pulp are $700-$1,000/t. The economic success of a pulping plant hinges on its ability to commercially produce pulp when prices are at the bottom of the cycle. Pulp and paper industry is a very conspicuous industry of modern times. Paper form a commodity of prime in partance to day from the parts of view of mass communication, education, and industrial and economic growth. Agricultural residues, such as bagasse, rice husk, wheat husk jute sticks, grasses, etc are fast becoming popular materials for paper making. considerable attention is being given to the utilization of various agricultural by products for preparing pulp for paper manufacture lendable efforts are being make in this direction. Paper production requires a disintegration of the bulky fibraes material to individual or small agglomerate fibres. This is called pulping. The ideal fibre for high grade paper should be long, high in cellulose content and low in ligrin content. Most ideal raw materila for paper products is bamboo. Other sources are bagasse and hardwoods like jute stick must be developed and good quality paper pulp make by blending with bamboo fibre.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p>Bamboo floors are also very popular because they give a beautiful look to any space and can be adapted to any style. Bamboo can be finished in many colours or be left completely natural, according to the buyer's taste. The options are almost endless.</p>
<p>Bamboo is gaining importance as a replacement for wood in flooring and roofing panels and other housing components (such as windows, doors and partition panels), in furniture and in packing cases. Some of these products are made of bamboo mat board, some have a core of bamboo mats with thin veneer facings and others are made of laminated bamboo slabs/strips of different sizes and shapes (bamboo parquet and floorboards). In some products, wood veneer or shavings are used to give a wood-like appearance to the surface.</p>
<p>At present, China has developed the largest number of bamboo based panel products and produces annually approximately 250,000 cubic metres in about 250 manufacturing units. The most popular panel product is bamboo mat plywood (about 100,000 cubic metres) followed by bamboo curtain board, bamboo strip board, bamboo lath board, bamboo based particle board, bamboo flooring panels and bamboo moulded products.</p>
<p>Bamboo flooring and bamboo board are the newest and most revolutionary products in woodworking industry. Bamboo sticks are made from the bamboo pole, then hydraulically laminated under high heat and pressure; the resulting boards are then sanded, moulded and finished similar to wood flooring finished product is protected against fungus and insects.</p>
<p>Bamboo flooring and bamboo board is found to be superior to most hardwoods in terms of hardness, stability and fire resistance.</p>
<p>Bamboo board has the additional advantage of being made from an abundant, renewable natural resderce bamboo. Unlike trees, which take decades to replace, bamboo groves fully rejuvenate within several years.</p>
<p>The specialized machinery used for making bamboo flooring, paneling and boards from the raw bamboo to the finished product, includes bamboo cutting, splitting, drying, sizing, gluing, pressing, planning moulding, sandingand UV curing.</p>
<p>Bamboo flooring is used for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, offices, restaurants, hotels, apartments etc.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Bamboo mat boards (BMB) are produced from woven mats of bamboo that are soaked in adhesive resin and then pressed firmly together in a hot press. They were the first of the wide range of different panel boards presently available that use bamboo as a raw material, but they are the simplest to produce, involve only bamboo raw materials and have great income generating potential for the rural poor, who are able to weave the mats from which they are formed. The technology for the manufacture of BMB in India has been developed by the Indian Plywood Industries Research Institute (IPIRTI), Bangalore, who have developed a technically feasible and commercially viable technology for its manufacture. BMB is gaining in popularity and there are currently a handful of BMB factories in operation in India and 16 in China.</p>
<p>Bamboo mat board is very versatile and can be produced up to 6 mm thick by varying the number of mat layers used; boards are usually formed of 2, 3, 5 or 7 mats. For thicker laminated boards, wood veneers are interleaved with the bamboo boards to produce bamboo mat-veneer composite boards (the production of these is not covered in this TOTEM). BMB is at least as durable and stable as wood-based plywood and is very resistant to pest attack, extreme climatic conditions and fire. It can be used for many of the uses to which plywood is now put such as paneling, ceilings, prefabricated shelters, packing cases and storage bins, roofs, doors and door panels, furniture, and household utensils such as trays and plates. BMB is much more flexible than wood-based-plywood and can be used in structural applications such as stressed skin panels, wall bracings and web beams for which plywood is not suitable.</p>
<p>The first recorded production of bamboo based panels was in China during the mid 1940s where bamboo mat board bonded with casein (enamel) glues was used in the interior of aeroplanes as an alternative to aircraft-grade plywood. At about the same time research was initiated in India to develop synthetic resinbonded bamboo mat board, for which the technology became available a decade and a half later. Since then, research has been carried out in several countries and over 30 types of panel products have been developed-some made of bamboo only and others of bamboo in combination with wood, lignocellulosic materials and inorganic materials. Research and development efforts have been mostly confined to countries of the AsiaPacific region i.e. China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Canada (in collaboration with Costa Rica) is the only country outside Asia where research on bamboo panels is being carried out.</p>
<p>Although there was some pioneering work in Taiwan and innovative products such as plybamboo (bamboo glue-lam) were developed, the bamboo board industry is reported to be facing extinction there due to the sharp increase in wages and shortages of raw materials. In Thailand, the only product manufactured is bamboo mat board glued with Urea Formaldehyde (UF) resin and this is mainly produced for export. In countries such as Laos, the Philippines and Vietnam, interest in bamboo matboard production is relatively new, and the industries there are presently in the phase of exploratory studies and experimental or pilot scale production.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Bamboo  flooring  and  bamboo  board  are  the  newest  and  most revolutionary products in woodworking industry. Bamboo sticks are  made  from  the bamboo pole, then hydraulically  laminated  under  high  heat  and pressure; the resulting boards are  then  sanded,  moulded and finished similar to wood flooring finished product is  protected against fungus and insects.</p>
<p>Bamboo flooring and bamboo board is found to be superior to most hardwoods in terms of hardness, stability and fire resistance.</p>
<p>Bamboo  board has the additional advantage of being made from  an  abundant, renewable natural resderce bamboo. Unlike trees,  which  take  decades to replace, bamboo groves fully  rejuvenate  within  several years.</p>
<p>The  specialized  machinery  used  for  making  bamboo  flooring, paneling and boards from the raw bamboo to the finished  product, includes  bamboo  cutting,  splitting,  drying,  sizing,  gluing, pressing, planning moulding, sandingand UV curing.</p>
