					<description><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Banana is a globally important fruit crop with 97.5 million tones of production. In India it supports livelihood of million of people. With total annual production of 16.91 million tones from 490.70 thousand ha., with national average of 33.5 T/ha. Maharashtra ranks first in production with 60 T/ha. Banana contributes 37% to total fruit production in India.</p>
<p>Banana is one of the major and economically important fruit crop of Maharashtra. Bananas occupy 20% area among the total area under crop in India. Maharashtra ranks second in area and first in productivity in India. Jalgaon is a major Banana growing district in Maharashtra which occupy 50,000 hectares area under Banana. But most of Banana is grown by planting suckers. The technology development in agriculture is very fast, it results in developing Tissue Culture Technique.</p>
<p>Banana is highly nutritious and easily digestible than many other fruits. Digestion time of banana fruit is less (105 min) than apple (210 min). Bananas are popular for aroma, texture and easy to peel and eat, besides rich in potassium and calcium and low in sodium content.</p>
<p>Moisture Content</p>
<p>Moisture content in pulp increases during ripening process due to respiratory breakdown of starches into sugar and migration of moisture from peel to pulp. However, in AAB variety, moisture content could be 68% due to presence of starchier balbisiana genome and incomplete conversion of starch into sugar even when banana is fully ripe; still some starch is left in pulp tissue.</p>
<p>Carbohydrates</p>
<p>During ripening process, starch is converted into sugar, through enzymatic breakdown process. In AAB group, starch content declines from 20-30% to 1-2%, but starch amount could be as high as 11% depending on variety.</p>
<p>Sugar content of fully mature banana is quite high that makes it an ideal substrate for wine making.</p>
<p>Carbohydrate type in banana is resistant starch and non-starch polysaccharides, which have low glycemic index or low digestibility. This property makes it an excellent ingredient for different functional and convenience foods like cookies and chips.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;"> <strong>BANANA FIBRE EXTRACTION AND HAND MADE PAPER</strong></p>
<p><strong>[CODE NO. 1613]</strong></p>
<p>The use of “Banana” fiber for textile and other purpose as natural material is a new concept for India. However, considerable research work has been done by textile research organizations including BITRA, CITRA, KVIC( Khadi Village Industry Corporation) and NRCB (National Research Centre for Banana-Trichy) and it has been found that banana fiber can be a very promising source of natural fiber in the coming period. It may be noted that this fiber is already used successfully in Philippines since decades and hence it is also known popularly as “Manila Hemp”. The other name of this fiber is “Abaca”, it belongs to musa sapientum species.</p>
<p>The proposed project envisages setting up of a facility for Banana fiber extraction from waste banana stem, cleaning, grading and converting it up to finished product.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p>Banana is an important fruit crop of many tropical and subtropical regions of India. It is cultivated in India in an area of 565.1 thousand ha and total production is around 18,701.9 thousand tons. Main banana growing states are Tamil Nadu,<br />
Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The global production of banana is around 76,436 thousand tons of which India contributes 24.5%. Besides India, other major banana producing countries are Brazil, China, Philippines, Costa Rica and Ecuador.</p>
<p>Flour is produced from both plantains and eating bananas in many regions, which can then be used in soups, baking or as a drink. The banana can also be used to make vinegar and to brew alcoholic beverages. The stamina flowers can be used as a vegetable, after briefly heating them in salty water (to remove the bitterness). Bananas can also be used as a starch-rich animal feed (pig farming). The fresh leaves are high in protein content, and are preferred for their taste by cattle and chickens. The leaves are also commonly used as packing material and for roofing. Along with the pseudo-stem they offer excellent mulching material. The exclusive use of healthy seeds, and application of appropriate measures, offer the most effective preventative and thus alternative methods of controlling insects and nematodes. The application of waste from extensive shrimp farms in Ecuador (shrimp shells) has shown good results against nematodes beside being a good organic fertilizer.</p>

<p>PREFACE</p>
<p>Banana is an important fruit crop of many tropical and subtropical regions of India. It is cultivated in India in an area of 565.1 thousand ha and total production is around 18,701.9 thousand tons. Main banana growing states are Tamil Nadu,<br />
Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The global production of banana is around 76,436 thousand tons of which India contributes 24.5%. Besides India, other major banana producing countries are Brazil, China, Philippines, Costa Rica and Ecuador.</p>
<p>Flour is produced from both plantains and eating bananas in many regions, which can then be used in soups, baking or as a drink. The banana can also be used to make vinegar and to brew alcoholic beverages. The stamina flowers can be used as a vegetable, after briefly heating them in salty water (to remove the bitterness). Bananas can also be used as a starch-rich animal feed (pig farming). The fresh leaves are high in protein content, and are preferred for their taste by cattle and chickens. The leaves are also commonly used as packing material and for roofing. Along with the pseudo-stem they offer excellent mulching material. The exclusive use of healthy seeds, and application of appropriate measures, offer the most effective preventative and thus alternative methods of controlling insects and nematodes. The application of waste from extensive shrimp farms in Ecuador (shrimp shells) has shown good results against nematodes beside being a good organic fertilizer.<br />
