Malleable iron is a cast alloy consisting principally of iron and carbon which is rendered tough and ductile by a controlled heat conversion process. Because of its unique metallurgical structure, it has the valuable properties of strength, great toughness, remarkable resistance to heavy and repeated impact, excellent ductility, high resistance to corrosion, and easy machinability. Its versatile castability makes possible sound castings, accurate to pattern in complicated as well as simple forms, over an extensive range of weights and sizes.
