Organic coatings are composed of pigments suspended in a vehicle. The vehicle or carrier consists primarily of a resinuous of driers, plasticizers and stabilizers as required. As the paint film dries, these vehicles changes from a liquid to the solid film by one or more of several mechanisms.

1. Evaporation of Solvents.

2. Oxidation (of a drying oil).

3. Polymerization through application of heat, addition of catalyst, or combination of reactive components.

The pigments contribute such properties as inhibitions of a metal surface (red lead & zinc chromate), reinforcement of the film, stabilization against deterioration by sunlight, controlled chalking (titanium oxide) and colour clear coating (varnishes, lacquers & shellac) are not pigmented.

The technology of producing pearlscent pigments has passed through three stages, the original natural pearl essence was obtained from fish scoles and was expensive. Later basic lead carbonate, Bismuth oxychloride and lead hydrogen arsenate were used.

The pearlscent or nacreous pigments owe their effects to partial transmittance and partial reflection of light from the multiple coating layers. Since the layers have about the thickness of the wavelengths of visible light, some wavelengths interfere and colours are produced.

There are many types of thinners in the market including NC Thinners (Nitro Cellulose based thinners), White spirit based thinners, solvents and thinners, ethyl alcohol based thinners, white spirit based thinners etc. N.C. THINNER comes in paint category, is a mixture of glycol, esters, alcohol, aromatic solvents and ketones suitable diluents to all nitro products. The NC thinners unit is having a great demand in India and in overseas countries since its usages are wide. It is manufactured for reducing lacquers before they are applied by different methods.

Solvents or Thinners are used in Paints and lacquers to reduce the viscosity or consistency of the material and facilitate the application of a uniform coating. In India few manufacturers are producing the nc based thinners and still there is a gap for new entrants to come-up into this field. They must be compatible with the oil or resin present. After application the solvent is no longer required and should evaporate completely from the film. The detailed project report of thinners includes Manufacturing process wit formulae, market scope, Complete cost economics with profitability analysis, Suppliers of plant and equipments, Suppliers of Raw Materials etc.

2. Cement paints find ready application in covering the exteriors of the buildings, with the purpose of protecting them from weathersnag. Thus it is only natural to expect that the cement paints find a liberal application in countries under the influence of tropical climate. Their utilisation to protect the exteriors of the buildings from the attacks of monsoon in these countries can be found to be maximum.
