Dolomite CaMg (CO3)2 is a carbonate of calcium and magnesium. The carbonates of calcium and Magnesium are obtained from deposits of lime stone, marble, chalk, dolomite or cyster shells. for chemical uses a rather pure lime stone is preferred as a starting material with high calcium lime.
Magnesium is one of the most widely distributed elements, occupying 1.9% of the earth’s erust. It occurs in the forms of chloride, oxide, silicate, sulfate or carbonate, either in a simple or complex salts.
Important sources of magnesium salts are:- Sea -water, certain salt wells, bitterns from seabrime, salines, dolomite and magnesite (MgCo3). Magnesium has already been in substantial use in refractory and insulating compounds, manufacturing of rubber, printing inks, pharmaceuticals & toilet goods, Now, magnesium oxide is finding new important uses in air pollution control systems for the removal of sulfur dioxide from the stack gases. This new application may mean a major growth of Magnesium and its carbonate containing are like dolomite & Magnesite.
