(A) FERRO VANADIUM: Ferro Vanadium is an alloy which is formed by combining iron and vanadium with a vanadium content range of 35%-85%. Ferro Vanadium is a universal hardener, strengthener and anti-corrosive additive for steels like high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel, tool steels, as well as other ferrous-based products. Ferro Vanadium was first used in the production of the Ford Model T and is still used in the automobile industry today. PROPERTIES OF FERRO VANADIUM: Ferro Vanadium, as an additive to the production process of ferrous metals, will impart several desirable properties upon the resulting new compound. One of the primary benefits of adding Ferro Vanadium to an alloy is its stability against alkalis as well as sulphuric and hydrochloric acids. Additionally, the adding of Ferro Vanadium to an alloy can result in a steel product less susceptible to corrosion of any type. Ferro Vanadium is also used to reduce weight while simultaneously increasing the tensile strength of the material. Vanadium imparts hardness, tensile strength and machining qualities. Vanadium steels are used for general engineering purposes. Addition of small quantities of vanadium (0.1%-0. 25%) imparts excellent welding characteristics, while a large amount (1%-5%) of vanadium with Chromium and Tungsten in steel is used to make high speed tools noted for hardness retention over a moderate temperature range. Vanadium steels are used in high-pressure boilers, locomotive parts, gears and turbines.
