The tungsten has a wide range of Industrial uses. The largest use is as tungsten  carbide in cemented carbides. The available ore of tungsten  are of very low grade ranging from 0.04 to 0.2% WO3 as against the commonly exploited ore grades of 0.5% WO3 world over. This process is a daunting challenge to the metallurgists to develop a suitable technology for the exploitation of Indian ore which of strategic importance to the country. The  chief sources of tungsten are mineral scheelite [CaWo4]  and  wol framite [ (Fe.Mn) WO3] which deposited by hydrothermal  solution. The tungsten has a melting point of 3350oC The highest of all metals and it is resistant  to all acids at ordinary temperatures. It is elastic ductile and has high tensile strength and can be drawn into very thin wires. The domestic requirements of tungsten and  its products are met through imports. Most tungsten ore contain less than 1.5% Wo3.
