The study has helped to devise 12 typologies based on the above four parameters and also provides an insight into the spatial distribution and variability of soybean yield, identification of priority areas where extension and research should be focused for vertical (yield) as well as horizontal expansion (area).
During the Green Revolution, the major thrust was placed on increasing productivity of food grains; the oilseeds and pulses, the main source of protein in a vegetarian diet remained outside the main stream of development. In view of this fact Bhalla and Singh (1997) pointed out that Indian agriculture during the last decade marked a distinct change in cropping pattern away from coarse cereals toward oilseeds.
