India’s share in the world tourist flow is  abysmally poor   at  0.4  per  cent.  Poor  infrastructure  and   transport facilities, inadequate hotel rooms and lack of clean and hygienic environment are among the major impediments in tourism growth. As an  activity which can earn much needed foreign exchange for  the country and provide empolyment opportunities to a large number of
people,  tourism  promotion  deserves greater  attention  of  the central and state governments.
