Rapid growing and huge market of e-rickshaw
There is a huge market of e-rickshaw in India and growing at a rapid pace. Engineers India Research Institute (EIRI) have recently prepared a Market Survey cum Detailed Techno Economic Feasibility Report of E-Rickshaw.
To start the E-Rickshaw unit with the installed capacity of 20 No./Day, Land Area would require approx. 5000 sq. mt., Plant and equipment are required with 1.30 Cr INR including Power Press, Hydraulic Press, Welding Equipment, Powder Coating Plant and allied others, Raw Materials Per Month approx. Rs. 3.81 Cr. Including Steel Pipes, MIG Wire, Battery etc.

The term ‘E-rickshaw’ denotes Electric Rickshaw. As the name suggests these rickshaws run on electricity, quite unlike the conventional rickshaws, and so there is no emission of harmful gases. The battery in these vehicles is rechargeable and can easily be recharged from a roadside point or even at home. Over the last few years the demand for such rickshaws has gone up to a large extent with people growing more and more conscious about environmental decadence.
Rickshaws are a part of life across much of Asia for tourists and locals alike. However, the gasoline-powered versions of these three-wheeled vehicles are rarely environmentally friendly, creating smog and noise-pollution. Japanese company Terra Motors has developed a new, electric rickshaw it hopes will improve environmental degradation and also save on fuel costs for drivers.
In India, as elsewhere across Asia, rickshaws are thought to be be responsible for up to 20 percent of all trips. “Current transport trends in Indian cities are leading to growing sustainability challenges, such as deteriorating air quality and rising road fatalities,” according to a recent report from the World Resources Institute. “These trends point to the urgent need to promote more sustainable urban transport.”
“UP is a big market for e-rickshaws and we estimate the demand at 1,00,000 units in the next 2-3 years,”
